Special Pre-Order Offer!
|
|
Pre-order VANISHED and as a special thank you, I will send you The Cowl, an original comic book based on VANISHED, and a signed bookplate.
The Cowl is written by comic book legend Brian Azzarello, author of 100 Bullets and the bestselling Joker, and drawn by talented new comic artist Benito Gallego. We've only printed a few hundred copies so these are genuine collectors' items - but you can stake your claim to one by pre-ordering a copy of VANISHED, either online or from your favorite book store, before its official on-sale date of August 18.
Visit my website for more details and to read my letter explaining the origin of The Cowl.

VANISHED: The First Reviews
|
 |
Bad reviews don't bother me, but it's definitely more fun to get good ones. The first reviews of VANISHED have started to come in, and if I didn't have my family to keep me grounded, they might go to my head.
Library Journal called VANISHED "a rousing start to a new series featuring Nick Heller, a high-powered international investigator and corporate security consultant," and added, "Cliffhangers galore, the fascinating tradecraft of corporate espionage, and an engrossing story will propel readers through this outstanding thriller. Highly recommended as a great summer read."
The Chicago Sun-Times calls the news series "a perfect combination of action and intelligent suspense, led by a promising new hero."
And Booklist praised its "Breakneck pace and labyrinthine schemes . . . ingenious."
But the one I like best is the blurb from Lee Child, on the back cover of the finished book: "If Jack Reacher met Nick Heller in a dark alley, my money's on Reacher. But it would be ugly. Or would it? Actually, I think they'd go for a beer together and set the world to rights - because Joseph Finder has given me a terrific new hero to root for. This is an action-packed, full-throttle, buy-it-today-read-it-tonight series that you definitely shouldn't miss."
As I crash toward my deadline on the second Nick Heller novel, it's encouraging to have that kind of support. And Reacher, Nick's available for a beer anytime you say.

Looking for a Great Tag Line
|
|
It's that time of year again: the time when I look for a slogan to promote VANISHED, to go on Post-It notes that I'll distribute on tour and by mail to readers.
"I've VANISHED into a great book!"
"He's Heller on wheels."
"It's all fun and games, until someone gets kidnapped at gunpoint."
Okay, maybe that last one needs some work. But you try - for a chance at winning your own copy of VANISHED.
Send your ideas to Claire@josephfinder.com by June 15, along with your full name and mailing address. Thanks for your help!

Where I've Been, Where I'll Be
|
|
Since I've been buried in the new book, most of my appearances recently have been virtual. The excellent horror writer Jonathan Maberry interviewed me for his Big, Scary Blog.
As May closes, I'm in New York for BookExpo America, where I'm giving away copies of The Cowl at the Mystery Writers of America's booth and attending the ABA's Celebration of Bookselling luncheon. I'm also delighted to be part of the Backspace Writers Conference, where I'm talking about "What I Wish I'd Known When I Was Starting Out" (a topic for a future Writing Tips newsletter, for sure).
On June 5, I'll be doing a live interview with Sean Hannity on the Fox News Channel, where we may well be talking about a column I wrote for the The Daily Beast in April. Watch a video of me talking to Carlos Watson of MSNBC about the subject.
As always, I'll be at Thrillerfest in New York City, July 8-11, participating in two panels: "Why Spy?" at 9:00 a.m. on July 10, and "Is That True? When to Lie and When to Research," at 5:00 p.m. on July 11.
The tour schedule for VANISHED is still being finalized, but I'm participating in several writers' conferences before and after its publication date: The Pacific Northwest Writers Association's Annual Summer Conference, in Seattle July 30 - August 2; the Hawaii Writers Conference in Honolulu, September 4-7; and the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers' Colorado Gold Writers Conference in Denver, September 11-13, where I'll be giving the keynote address at the awards banquet on September 12.
Finally, I'll be at the New England Crime Bake in Dedham, MA, November 13-15. Phew!

...But the Bigger Issue Is, What Will I Look Like?
|
|
My Twitter pal @juliagoolia has been experimenting with new looks for me, before the next tour starts. I have to say, I like the soul patch in the first photo.
If you’re on Twitter, you can follow me at @joefinder.
And join my official Facebook fan page, where there's been much discussion over my mullet and flock of seagulls.
